Alan Neal Brecheisen was a native Nevadan, born in Henderson, March 29, 1951, and passed away in Las Vegas, March 4, 2013, at age 61. He attended elementary schools in Henderson and Las Vegas, K. O. Knudsen Junior High, graduated from Valley High School (1969) and from UNLV (1975/geology). He worked at the EPA during college, and started his career with the Bureau of Land Management, working in Battle Mountain, Reno, and Carson City, until his retirement in 2005. He also shared his passion for nature and geology by visiting elementary school classrooms, leading tours for continuing education and as a regional trainer for BLM. He enjoyed hiking the Grand Canyon, attending the Reno Air Races with his same group of friends every year, volunteering with the Silver State Car Race and being a part of the Nevada Petroleum Society. Neal and his wife, Cheryl, were high school sweethearts who parted ways after high school, but met again and married in 2005. They were able to take camping vacations, cruises, train trips and other adventures together. Neal was preceded in death by his father, Don Brecheisen (Feb. 21, 2013). He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; her daughters, Jamie and Shannon (Tony); her granddaughters, Ariana and Cassidy; mother, Jo Brecheisen; brother, Ron Brecheisen, his wife, Caroline, and her son, RJ; and many other cousins across the country. Viewing will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, with services following, both at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. N. Burial following, at Memory Gardens, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road. Neal had a geology professor at UNLV that inspired and mentored him through his college years.
