ALTA PLUNKETT Alta May Oler Plunkett passed away quietly in her home July 7, 2015. She celebrated her 90th birthday with her family May 29, 2015. Alta was born May 29, 1925, in Shelley, Idaho, to Albert Oler and Nellie McGary Oler. Alta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daniel H. Plunkett; her brother, Rulon Oler; and sisters, Cleo Sprague, Velma Giambo and Ada Herring. She is survived by her three children, Carl Plunkett (Rosemary) of Las Vegas, Earl Plunkett (Karen) of Cedar City, Utah, and Sheryl McGeary of Las Vegas; 19 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Alta grew up in Shelley, Idaho. Her parents moved to Henderson in October 1942, where she graduated from Basic High. She was valedictorian. She met and married Daniel Plunkett June 5, 1944. Dan built their home in 1952 in Las Vegas. In 1968, the Plunkett family built Callville Bay Marina and, later in 1974, purchased Lake Mead Marina. Alta helped with payroll and kept the books for this venture. Alta and Dan developed a cattle ranch in Aberdeen, Idaho, where they would spend the summers. Alta served many wonderful meals to cowboys and friends who worked and visited the ranch. Alta was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a Primary leader for over 25 years. She served in Relief Society as a teacher and a leader. She was a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers and served as President of the Desert Holly Camp. She also was a member of the Las Vegas Literary Club. She served as a Las Vegas Temple worker for 11 years. She loved to crochet and do a variety of crafts. She was a great confidant. She was always concerned about the welfare of others. She worked to make other's lives better. Alta loved to travel to places to see how things are made. Her husband flew his own plane. She and Dan took many family trips to Mexico, Alaska, and all over America. They also traveled to New Zealand and Hawaii. She later took trips to Europe with her family. We, as a family, would like to thank Creekside Hospice for their caring Nurse Peggy Diehl and our CNA Suzanne Hadley. They have been encouraging, so helpful and supportive. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, with services following at 11 a.m., both at the Gateway/Wyoming LDS Chapel, 4040 E. Wyoming. Burial following at Bunker Memory Gardens Cemetery, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road.
