Andrew L. Finch, an Air Force veteran and long-time resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away after a long illness, on September 8, 2022 at the age of 71. Andrew graduated from Oxford High School in 1969. Andy was born in Oxford, New York on October 2, 1950, son of Floyd L. and Sarah M. Finch. He proudly served as a volunteer for the Oxford Fire Department. After graduation from high school he worked at the New York State veterans home and was employed briefly at the Great American store both in Oxford, NY.
Thereafter, he enlisted in the Air Force, met the love of his life, Cory (Carlson), at Ramey A.F.B., Puerto Rico, they were married July 10, 1971. He selflessly served our country for many years before retiring. He is survived by his children, Thomas A. Finch (Julie Jarvis) and Rebecca R. Mersereau (Craig), his grandchildren, Charles Finch, Anniece Finch, Mason Mersereau, Jason Mersereau, and Ethan Mersereau; his sisters, Donna Clark, Connie McGowan, and Sharon Carpenter; as well as his brothers-in-law, Tim McGowan, Gary Carpenter, Don Cantello and Robert Mercer; his sisters-in-law, Linda Finch, Debbie Cantello and Shell Mercer; and many nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his mother, Sarah Finch; his father, Floyd Finch, and his brother, Terry Finch.
Andy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather (affectionately known as "Papa"), brother, brother-in-law, uncle (affectionately known as "Grumple," a combination of Grandpa and Uncle) and friend. He was well-loved as a square dance caller -- primarily for the Good-Times Squares -- for many years, and he even recorded some records. He loved cooking, watching the Vegas Golden Knights and New York Giants, playing cards, and laughing with family and friends — especially at the American Legion in his hometown, Oxford, New York. But mostly, Andy is described as a man who loved, loved, LOVED his family and delighted in spending time with his grandchildren. He is deeply missed by his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service is scheduled on September 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Canyon Ridge Christian Church, located at 6200 W. Lone Mountain Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89130. Pastor Garett Faye will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations in Andy's honor would be greatly appreciated to the Oxford Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 570, Oxford, New York 13830, Ofc: 607.843.7951; info@oxfordfd.com; oxfordfd.com.
