DR. ANDREW MARTINEZ Andrew Arthur Martinez, 72, of Las Vegas, passed away Jan. 9, 2014. He was born Feb. 27, 1941, in Las Mesitas, Colo., and was a 51-year resident of Nevada. Dr. Andrew Martinez served in the Clark County School District for 36 years before retiring. In his time, he was a principal at Anne Lynch and Sunrise Acres Elementary School, vice principal, ESL coordinator and teacher. He also taught at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the University of Phoenix. He received his doctorate in educational leadership at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas after having earned his masters of education at Adams State and his bachelor's at Westmar College. He was a member of the Clark County Association of School Administrators (CCASA). He was also an avid reader, writer and cat lover. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha and Luis Martinez; and brother, Richard "Rocky" Martinez. He is survived by his wife, of 22 years, Melodie Martinez; sons, Stewart and his wife, Rebecca, Arthur and Todd Martinez; stepdaughters, Honii Buonsante and her husband, Pasquale, Popea Edlow and Elizabeth Rush; stepson, Robert Dougherty; brother, Boney Martinez; sisters, Rose Reese and Louisa Rendon and her husband, Andres; aunt, Angy; and eight grandchildren. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, both at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. N.
