Annie A. Berry

Annie A. Berry, 72, of Las Vegas, passed away in her sleep, Feb. 23, 2017, at the North Las Vegas Care Center. The fourth of ten children born to John William and Annie Kamanuwai on the island of Kaua'i, Hawai'i. Annie was born Jan. 9, 1945. She attended high school in Kapa'a, Kaua'i. Shortly after high school she moved to Los Angeles to join her older sister, Sybil. There she met her husband and together they moved to Puerto Rico. In l982 they came to reside in Las Vegas where Annie was employed at Walker Furniture and Eldorado High School. She first started as a parent-volunteer with CCSD and won the Parent Hall of Fame award for the 1994-95 school year. Annie was known for her beautiful singing voice and love of music. In 1988 she joined St. James the Apostle Catholic Church and became an integral part of their gospel choir. Her active participation in the choir was ended by a massive stroke in 2005 but she continued to provide moral support from her wheel chair beside the choir every Sunday until her death. She was preceded in death by five sisters; one brother; and her son, Samuel "Hoku" Berry. She is survived by her husband, of 44 years, Michael Berry; sons, Michael Kawika Berry of Reno and Eric Sialoi of Buena Park, Calif.; three brothers; one sister; and four grandchildren. Vigil is from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 2 at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. N., Las Vegas, NV 89101. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 3 at St. James Catholic Church, 1920 N. Martin Luther King Way, Las Vegas, NV 89106. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Annie's life.
