It is with deep sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Anthony Marion Earl, who departed this life peacefully at home on May 13, 2026, at the age of 88.
Anthony was born to Marion and Lucille Earl on June 17, 1937 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The oldest of two children, he was raised in Las Vegas and graduated from Las Vegas High School where he excelled in basketball, track, debate, and student council. He was active in Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle, and also graduated from seminary. After serving a mission to West Germany for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he married his high school sweetheart, Grace Munhall in the St George Temple. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Brigham Young University, he served as a military policeman in the United States Army for six months, earning the distinction of sharpshooter and continued in the Army Reserve for another two years. After completing a law degree from the University of Southern California, he returned to Las Vegas where he worked as a public defender before joining his father and uncle at their firm, Earl & Earl, where he practiced civil litigation for 35 years.
Anthony was a man of deep faith and devotion, with a lifelong commitment to God and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He touched many lives during his decades of religious service teaching seminary, serving as Scout Master, Bishop, and a host of other callings. A gifted speaker, he loved preparing and sharing Gospel messages with many different congregations. He served a second mission to East Germany along with his wife to share his faith in Jesus Christ and minister to others in the land he held so dear.
A dedicated husband and father, he was a constant source of wisdom and support in the lives of his five children, cheering them on at football games, track meets, orchestra concerts and music recitals. He took the time to set up hurdles, pitch to his boys, play croquet on the lawn, and help with homework. He valued education and with his support, all five of his children graduated from college. He loved spending time with them and his grandchildren, especially on their many summer vacations to Aspen Grove Family Camp in Provo Canyon, where he loved to take them fishing and make limeade.
Anthony was also passionate in his love for music. He had a rich bass voice and sang in an a cappella choir at BYU as well as Desert Chorale, a community choir, for many years. He played the piano, was proud of his collection of classical music, and even kept a list of Mozart’s Köchel numbers in his wallet. This love lives on in the lives of his posterity.
A devoted fan of BYU sports, he hung their flag from the roof and faithfully cheered on Cougar football and basketball at full volume his entire life. A voracious reader, his den is full from floor to ceiling with classics, mysteries, and countless histories, largely from World War II. He enjoyed planning trips, especially to Europe, and his travels took him overseas many times on cherished vacations with children and grandchildren. He loved the German language and worked hard to remain fluent throughout his life. Anthony was a man who lived true to his principles, and his warm and generous spirit was felt by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marion Bradley Earl, his mother, Lucille Pike, and his brother, John Milton Earl. He is survived by his beloved wife, Grace Earl of 65 years and five children, Brent (Elizabeth), Dallas (Tiffany), Douglas (Heidi), Jeanette (Scott) Petersen, and Becky (Jeff) Stevens, 24 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
