Barbara A. Smith

Barbara Anne Smith, 73, a retired teacher, of Las Vegas, passed away March 5, 2012. She was born May 3, 1938 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and was a 68-year resident of Nevada. Barbara was a long-time English teacher at Western High School. She touched many students' lives with her enthusiasm for teaching. Many of her students have remained in touch with her over the years. After retirement, she embraced life with zeal and remained active in the educational community. Her love for horticulture was obvious in her own amazing garden and the yards of friends and relatives that she designed. Her household renovation projects were legendary for their creativity and style. She loved to travel the world and had a particular affection for London, England. She will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to share her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Smith; father and mother, Joseph and Anne Davis; and brother, Thomas Davis. She is survived by her son, David Whitehead; sister, Marion Sharp; nephew, Todd Davis; niece, Jennifer Possick; and her beloved dogs, Buddy, Toby, Andrew, Daisy, Susie, and Suzette. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m., March 17, at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. N. Friends are encouraged to make a donation to their favorite charity.
