Barbara Elizabeth Brown Telford

July 14, 1944 — July 20, 2025

Barbara Elizabeth Brown Telford, born July 14, 1944, in Washington, D.C., passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 81.

Barbara was the daughter of Alan and Doris Brown and grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She was the younger sister of Alan “Pat” Brown Jr. and Michael Brown, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth, wit, and generosity touched everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Kent Telford, and their four children: Amy Telford, Matt Telford (Christine), Mark Telford (Mariann), and Doris Telford (Paul). Barbara and Kent were married for nearly 60 years and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 31, 2025. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Together, Barbara and Kent built a life full of love, laughter, and adventure, raising their family in many places across the country. They spent years in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, where they raised their three oldest children. Later, they moved to Hollywood, Florida, where their youngest daughter, Doris, was born. From there, they relocated to Stockton, California, and then Southern California, before eventually settling in Las Vegas, Nevada. Each move carried with it new memories, new stories, and created lifelong friendships along the way.

Barbara loved to read, and she shared that passion with children during her years as an elementary school librarian. One of her greatest joys was instilling a lifelong love for reading in children and helping them discover the magic of books.

Barbara had a collector’s eye and a special fondness for dolls, which she lovingly curated over her lifetime She also had a deep love for animals—especially her cherished Welsh Corgis and cats—who were beloved companions.

Barbara also found great joy in life’s simple pleasures and gave of herself generously, always with an open heart. Her garden was her sanctuary—a place where she found peace among the roses and African violets she grew with such care. She had a deep appreciation for history and the natural world, which she shared through her heartfelt volunteer work at the Los Angeles Arboretum and Pasadena Heritage. She poured countless hours into her children’s schools, always the first to raise her hand or offer her time. She was also an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life.

Barbara will be remembered most of all for the love she gave so freely—through her laughter, her gentle presence, and her unwavering devotion to family and community.
