Sfc Bernard A. Grant

SFC BERNARD GRANT U.S. Army, Retired SFC Bernard "Bernie" A. Grant, born Dec. 12, 1924, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a 26-year veteran of the U.S. Army, passed away May 2, 2013, in Las Vegas, with his family at his side. A resident of Las Vegas for 44 years, Bernie served in the U.S. Army overseas in World War II in the 1st Infantry Division, and in Korea. After retiring from the Pentagon, Washington D.C., in 1969, he relocated his family to Las Vegas, where he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. He retired after 20 years. Bernie was an active member of the VFW Post 9447 and the Good Springs Community Church. He liked fishing and could often be found baking cookies and breads for neighbors and loved ones. Most of all, Bernie enjoyed life, and lived his to the fullest. Bernie was preceded in death by his loving wife, of 60 years, Edna Irene Grant. Bernie is survived by his sons, Roger and Doug; granddaughter, Crystal; 10 other grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. N. Memorial services will be at 9:20 a.m. Friday, May 10, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City.
