Bessie King Gould, 88, a registered nurse, of Las Vegas, passed away Oct. 13, 2011. She is survived by her only child, daughter, Gail Powers of Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 4, 1923, in Glen Burnie, Md. Bessie graduated from Maryland General Hospital nursing school in 1945 and joined the Army Nurses Corps on March 15, 1945 during World War II, where she was a Second Lieutenant. She moved to Las Vegas in 1955 and worked as a Registered Nurse for St Rose Delima in Henderson; Dr. Glen Tueller; Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital (UMC) as Director of Nurses; and retired from Valley Hospital as Night Supervisor on Sept. 29, 1983. She continued to work part-time for UMC Quick Care until 1999. She met her husband, Jay Gould, who also worked at St. Rose Delima, as a pharmacist mate. They were married on July 9, 1955. Jay passed away eight years ago and now that they have been reunited they will be laid to rest together. Graveside military services are 11 a.m. on Oct. 24 at Craig Road Pet Cemetery, 7450 W. Craig Road, Las Vegas. A reception will be held immediately following the services at their residence of 55 years, located at 7385 W. Verde Way, Las Vegas.
