The man who taught us to dance on his two feet before we could even walk on our own two stepped his way into heaven on February 11, 2023, at the age of 86. Bob Peck the only child born to Vretta Greer and Robert Peck on November 26, 1936, in Lewiston, ID. Bob’s love of sports began as boy growing up in Peck, ID that love continued when he moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1952 he attended Boulder City High School and Basic High School where he received the honors of being an All State football quarterback and All State baseball catcher. He went on to attend Dixie State College for a year and then transferred to the University of Nevada Reno where he held state football records until recently broken several years later. He graduated from UNR with a bachelor of arts in education and later went on to receive a master’s degree in school administration. He continued to use that education within the Clark County School District as a teacher, counselor, mentor and coach at Las Vegas, Rancho, Valley, Eldorado, and Chaparral High School for 31 years. During his summers off from the school district, Bob Peck served in the community by working for the City Las Vegas in the activities department, playground services, Track and Field, Inner City games and was a member of the city’s golf board. Bob’s expertise in sports also led it him to be an officiator for the Southern Nevada Officials Association for 14 years.
Bob’s life wasn’t always filled with sports in 1958 at Dixie State College, Sherwan Tanner took a fall down the steps and into the arms of Bob Peck where Bob responded with no truer words than, “Looks like you are falling for me!” Six months later Sherwan and Bob were married in her parents front yard in Washington, UT. Bob and Sherwan were married for 43 years until her passing in 2005. Bob and Sherwan welcomed three children into their family, Steven, Peggy, and Toby. Together they had 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. They also enjoyed traveling the US, motorcycle rides, and spending their summers in McCall, ID. After Sherwan’s passing Bob was fortunate to find love again and married Maryann Holmes in 2007, and welcomed her children, Nikki, Michelle, and Jeff into his life. They met and bonded over their love of line dancing and shared a similar love of McCall, ID and they too enjoyed spending summers there until Maryann passed away in 2020.
One of Bob’s last comments was how lucky he was because he got to do everything he wanted in this life. From loving his family and friends and being loved in return, to traveling the world, spending time on the greens whether it be golf, football, or baseball, from serenading his grandkids while strumming on his guitar, to boot scootin’ on the dance floor. He lived a full life and touched so many along the way. His smile and goofy dance moves to get us all to laugh will greatly be missed.
Bob Peck was survived by his children and their spouses, Steven Peck (Doris), Peggy Eliason (Robert) and Toby Peck (Elvira), his 13 grandchildren: Jewel, Shane, Amber, Tyler, Brittany, Ryan, Lance, Derick, Chanel, Tricia, Kaylee, Taylor and Chelsea. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vretta Greer, his father, Robert Peck, and his wives, Sherwan Peck and Maryann Peck.
