Bruce B. Sharp, 65, of Las Vegas, passed away Dec. 11, 2011, after a courageous 27-months battle with cancer, in the arms of his loving wife and partner, of 46 years, Elaine. Bruce was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Sharp; and father, Laurence Sharp, both of Delaware. He leaves his lovely wife, Elaine; son, Brewe L. Sharp of Las Vegas; sister, Gail Sharp-Felin of Rehoba Beach, Del.; brothers, Laurence Sharp of Lewes, Del., and Gregg Sharp of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; special Goddaughter, Jodie Brown of Smyrna, Del.; grandson, Vincent Brown of Smyrna; Goddaughter, Debbie Hurt of Arizona; as well as many special friends. Bruce was a Yellow-Checker-Star Cab Companies field operations manager. The entire Las Vegas taxicab industry is mourning his death. His influence over 32 years in the cab industry can't be overlooked. He worked closely with the Las Vegas Convention Authority, McCarran International Airport and the Nevada State Taxicab Authority with the goal of providing the best customer service in the country. Bruce knew every major hotel's service managers staff and was a 24-hour responder of requests for taxi service. Men and women like Bruce are the reason why the Las Vegas cab industry was named the number one city in the country providing the best taxi service by worldwide lodging provider hotels.com. Las Vegas was rated higher than New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and every other city in the United States. Bruce worked in his father's Silver Hill Dairy as a young boy until he was 18 years old in Milford, Del. His community spirit resulted in Bruce becoming a volunteer fireman at the Carlisle Volunteer Fire Dept. in Milford, for over 14 years. He recently was awarded the first lifetime honorary volunteer emeritus in 209 years by Station #42. He received an associate's degree in liberal arts from Clark County Community College. Bruce overcame a major birth defect with his arm and advanced from a cab driver to road supervisor and to field operations manager. His accident investigations were some of the most admired by claims departments throughout the industry as were his ethics. These served him well as he was the company representative at major accidents throughout his career. Former TA Administrator, Richard Land, and the entire Taxicab Authority honored Bruce with the prestigious Ambassador of Las Vegas award, the first and only time it was presented. One of his proudest accomplishments was looking out for the safety and well-being of Yellow-Checker-Stars most valuable assets ..... their drivers and employees. Memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. N. A reception will follow at Yellow-Checker-Star Cab Company. Those wishing to send flowers may do so by sending them to Bunkers Mortuary for the memorial service.
