In Loving Memory of Charlotte Catherine Matanane
On March 26, 2025, Charlotte Catherine Matanane—a devoted wife, beloved mother of seven, cherished grandmother to sixteen, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend—passed away peacefully at the age of 91 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Born on March 10, 1934, in Oakland, California, to Charles and Margaret McDonald, Charlotte lived a life filled with love, kindness, and laughter. She shared 71 and a half years of marriage with her husband, David Matanane. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising their family in California’s Bay Area until 1978, when they courageously followed a dream and moved across the country to Utica, New York, to purchase an automobile dealership. Though they left behind friends and family, they thrived in their new adventure until 1993, when their daughter Charlotte and son Tim encouraged them to move to Las Vegas—happily trading in snowy winters for sunshine.
Charlotte worked in retail in New York and Las Vegas, including at A Pea in the Pod and Macy’s. As a Ralph Lauren specialist at Macy’s, her timeless, tailored style was a perfect match. She spent 15 years there, enjoying not only the fashion but the meaningful relationships she built with her customers.
Charlotte is survived by her loving husband, David, and their children: Mary (Dave) Cerruti, Charlotte (Bill) Bible, David (Cindy) Matanane, Cathy Varni, Tim (Julie) Matanane, Tricia (Joe) Toussaint, and Stephanie (Tony) Perrone. She also leaves behind her grandchildren—Lauren (Josh), Sean, Colton, Camden, Siena, Marisa, Jack, Ryder, Hayden, Caitlyn, Olivia, Connor, Kellen, Jake, and Emily—her great-grandson, Jace, her sister, Pat Mangini, and her nephew Alvin (Robin) Mangini and his daughters Jennifer and Michelle and their children.
She was preceded in death by her precious granddaughter, Adelaide Grace Toussaint, and her beloved son-in-law, John J. Varni.
Charlotte devoted her life to her family with unwavering love and selflessness. Through every chapter of life—including her courageous journey with Parkinson’s Disease—she never lost her sense of humor, her warm smile, her gentle spirit, or her concern for others.
Charlotte leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories. She will forever be remembered and deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing her.
May she rest in eternal peace.
