Cheryl Barto

Cheryl Ann Barto, 52, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away at home February 20, 2017. She was born to Samuel Derrel and Arletta (Doucette) Barto in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 10, 1964. Cheryl graduated from Rancho High School in 1982, obtained her associates degree in accounting from the Community College of Southern Nevada Las Vega. She continued her education and earned her master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University. Cheryl had the joy of teaching many children beginning at Gordon McCaw Elementary School and then at Francis H. Cortney Junior High School. Although Cheryl did not have any children of her own, all the children she taught were hers; as she watched her students thrive and grow to love her classes, this brought fulfillment to her life. Science was her favorite subject to teach and she did so with great enthusiasm. Cheryl was devoted to the after school Science Bowl project that developed young students’ interest in the science field. Cheryl’s surviving family members include her mother, siblings Karen Marie Martin, Samuel Derrel, Jr. (Sally), and Mark David. Her 6 neieces and nephews will miss their Aunt Shoo Shoo. Services will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2017, 5:30 – 6:30pm, at Bunker Mortuary at 925 North Las Vegas Blvd. An open house will immediately follow at 342 Perry Ellis Drive in Henderson.
