Our beloved Gelbart family patriarch has returned home. Like all human beings, he had his flaws, but he tried his hardest, got better with age, loved God, his family and country, and taught us all what true strength is.
David Gelbart, born in Kalisz, Poland on September 17, 1930, passed away peacefully in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 30, 2025. David is predeceased by his beloved wife of over 50 years Elaine M. Gelbart and his daughter, Susannah Rachel Gelbart, his younger brother Chayim Gelbart and his parents, Simon and Sara Gelbart. He is survived by his children, Steven (Debra) Gelbart, Tamara Jaffe, Daniel (Wendy) Gelbart, Deborah (Ray) Veach, Michelle (Jeff) Goldsmith, and Joshua (April) Gelbart, his grandchildren Jonathan (Cara) Gelbart, Benjamin Gelbart, Rachel Jaffe (Howie Li), Sarabeth Jaffe (Dan Lachance), Scott Jaffe, Amanda (Harris) Butler, Emily Gelbart, Kate Gelbart, Melissa (Justin) Donald, Jennifer Magarowicz, Joel Finkielsztein, Rafaella (Judah) Goldman, Aviella (Albert) Shalom, Jonah Goldsmith, Shiah Goldsmith, and Ethan Gelbart, and great-grandchildren Emmett, Eliza, Reina Avery, Ayla, Rose, Nessah, and Cassian, his sister Sina Blanker, and brother Abram (Roz) Gelbart. After surviving the Nazis and the labor camps of Siberia, David immigrated to the USA and served in the United States military. David was a proud veteran who served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. David and his wife worked tirelessly in many different jobs to raise their large family, and David eventually retired from the Las Vegas Valley Water District. His family was active at Temple Beth Sholom for four decades. He will be laid to rest in Las Vegas at Bunkers Eden Vale Mortuary followed by interment at Eden Vale Memorial Park in the Garden of Abraham.
