Derek VaShaun Poole was born April 19, 1977 in Las Vegas, Nevada to Thomas and Verna Poole. He attended Ruth Fyfe Elementary School, Robert O. Gibson Middle School and Western High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. Derek joined True Love Missionary Baptist Church at a young age and was active in the choir. Derek was a great football and basketball player. He played with the Las Vegas 76’ers and numerous Pop Warner Teams which lead him to be one of the best Running Backs at Western High School. Derek graduated from Western High School in the class of 1995. He attended Oregon State University from 1995-1996 from there he went to Butte Community College. While attending Butte Community College, he played football and set a Holiday Bowl rushing record of 273 yards. He then transferred to Weber State University (WSU) in 1997 and played for the Weber State Wild-cats where he still ranks in the Top 20 for rushing years. In 2000 Derek received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Marketing and Sales from WSU.
Derek worked for First Solar as a Quality Control Technician and was transferred to Arizona in 2013. During his career with First Solar, Derek traveled to French Guyane, Italy, Rome, Spain, Germany and Canada. He was admired and respected by his co-workers and superiors, they will truly miss him. On August 18, 2015, after 16 years of love and dedication Derek married Fredi Salahuddin, the love of his life. During the years of their love they had two beautiful girls Alauna and Amaya. Derek was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 with his loved ones by his side. Derek is preceded in death by his mother, Verna Sampson-Poole, sister Netra and a host of other relatives and friends. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Fredi and their two daughter, Alauna and Amaya; his father Thomas James (TJ), Deborah (Stepmother) four brothers: Terry (Sukai), TJ (Bre) Rossi, David and stepsister Rochelle (Bryan); mother-in law Shirley (passed on 05/15/2016) father-in law Kenneth; 2 brothers in-laws; 2 sisters in-laws and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. Derek will also be missed and cherished by the Bonanza Village Neighborhood, Oregon State University, Butte Community College and Weber State University football programs. “I choose to believe that Derek was escorted by both of his grandmothers to reunite with his mom. Derek fought to the bitter end, though suffering all the way. You all knew he was a fighter. He was actually stronger than some of us he left behind. As you remember Derek, remember his smile his since of humor and his sense of loyalty to family and friends. Thank you for your support and please continue to pray for our family”
