With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Derryl Samuels, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend. Known for his unwavering work ethic and deep love for his family, Derryl passed away leaving behind a legacy of dedication, warmth, and connection. For the past 14 years, Derryl proudly worked at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino, where he was not only respected for his commitment and reliability but also cherished by his coworkers for his kind spirit and positive energy. He took great pride in providing for his loved ones and found purpose in his role as a provider and supporter. Outside of work, Derryl thrived at gatherings and family events. Nothing brought him more joy than seeing his family together—laughing, sharing stories, and creating memories. A devoted family man, Derryl’s presence lit up every room he entered, and his love for those around him was always evident. Per his wife’s wishes, she wanted to share a glimpse of their journey together. They met in high school in 1980—she was 15, he was 16. While it’s often the man who makes the first move, Salonn asked Derryl out, and from that day forward, they were inseparable. They dated for six years before marrying on April 12, 1986, recently celebrating their 39th wedding anniversary and 45 years together. Their love, dedication, and devotion were undeniable. As Salonn says, Derryl was her soulmate. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she moves forward, just as he would have wanted. Derryl leaves behind his loving mother Dorothy McGrew, his devoted wife Salonn Samuels, his daughter Tiffany Hendrix, his son Lamont Samuels, his cherished granddaughter Aaliyah Hendrix, his son-in-law Jonathan Hendrix, and his bonus-grandchildren Desirray, JJ, and JaKirra. He also leaves behind his brothers Andre and Darren; his sisters Lois and Louise; his sisters-in-law Sabrina, Darlene, Marina, and Cherise. He is also survived by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who will forever hold his memory close. Derryl’s legacy of hard work, love, and joy will continue to live on through those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
