Donald E Reed

Donald Eugene Reed, age 87, went to be with our Lord on February 27, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada where he resided for 51 years.  He was born on November 21, 1935, in East St. Louis, Illinois to Ida Mae Hoffarth and Therman Reed.  He had one older brother, James, who preceded him in death in 1975.

Don was married to Arlene Sperling on March 2, 1963, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington, Nebraska.  He graduated from Golden Gate University with a Master’s degree in Business Administration in 1978.

He served in the Air Force for 20 years and then was employed with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as a management analyst for 25 years.

He served faithfully at Redeemer Lutheran Church in multiple capacities for over 50 years and as a long-time board member at Faith Lutheran Middle School & High School.

He was a man of great character, integrity, and faith and was admired and beloved by all who knew him.

Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Arlene Reed; his daughter, Debra (David) Poser; granddaughters Chelsea (Chad) Faso, and Lynsey (Sam) Nagy; two great-grandsons, Vance Faso and Troy Nagy, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; his son, Scott (Pamela) Reed and granddaughter, Kayla Reed, of Rancho Santa Margarita, California;  two brothers-in-law, Leon (Marge) Sperling of Fremont, Nebraska and David Sperling of Arlington, Nebraska; and sister-in-law, Sheryl (George) Lively of Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church located at 1730 N. Pecos Road, Las Vegas, NV 89115 on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 11:00 am.  The service will be accessible through the Live Streaming link at https://www.redeemerlasvegas.com/.  A luncheon will follow immediately afterward in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Don’s name to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Faith Lutheran Middle School & High School in Las Vegas, Nevada.
