ELAINE GELBART, 73, passed away Aug. 7, 2011, in Las Vegas. She was a devoted wife of over 52 years, beloved mother of seven children, adored grandmother to 17 children and cherished great-grandmother. She was born July 5, 1938, in Omaha, Neb., to Sadie and Harry Janger. She met and married husband, David in Omaha in 1959, and they moved to Las Vegas in 1966. The couple owned a neighborhood grocery store, the Mini Mart Market, in the heart of downtown Las Vegas for eight years before Elaine became a secretary in the Clark County School District, where she worked for more than 15 years. Elaine was an extraordinarily dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who taught her large family the values of generosity, hard work, selflessness, honesty and spirituality. She was an extremely talented artist, calligrapher, singer, writer and poet. Her greatest joy in life was having her whole family around her. She will be deeply missed by her family and her large circle of loving friends. Elaine is survived by her husband, David; son, Steven; daughter, Tammy Jaffe; son, Daniel; daughter, Debbie Veach; daughter, Susie; daughter, Rabbi Michelle Goldsmith; son, Joshua; sister, Jan Zlotowiez; 17 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Memorial services were held Monday, Aug. 8, at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
