She was devoted to her family, including a number of cats and dogs. She kept an immaculate house with an eye for fine decorating. Elfie grew up in Bavaria, during World War II. After the war, she met and married Jacob "Jake" Scheffer, while he was stationed with the U.S. Army's 7th Calvary's Third Division in Augsburg, Germany. Jacob grew up in Holland, but also was a naturalized U.S. citizen. Jacob served at various bases in the United States and Europe. He later became a dietary supervisor in various convalescent and assisted living facilities. The family moved to Las Vegas from Los Angeles, after the Northridge earthquake in 1994. Elfie was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob; and her brother, Max Nagel. She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Edwards; son-in-law, John Gordon Edwards, both of Las Vegas; her sister-in-law, Johanna Nagel, of Donauworth, Germany; and a cousin, Josy Pike, of Glendale, Ariz. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 7, at Bunkers Memory Gardens Cemetery, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road, Las Vegas.
