Elsie Ashton, 89, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully in her sleep July 17, 2013, of heart failure. Elsie was born an identical twin, having lost her twin, Evelyn, some 22 years ago to cancer. Elsie was born and raised in England, where she still has close relatives. She survived the World War II bombings in London, working at an ammunitions factory. Elsie was awarded a citation for saving the life of a person from impending drowning, something of which she and her family were quite proud. In 1957 Elsie, her husband, Bob, and two children, Jim and Janet, immigrated from England directly to Las Vegas to build a better future for the family. Elsie found work in Las Vegas as a waitress, being employed by the famous Silver Slipper and Sands Hotel and Casino. She had many colorful stories of her times spent there. The family thrived and made many life-long friends. She became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1975. Elsie was beloved by all who knew her for her friendly nature and spunkiness. Elsie leaves behind her son, Jim Tucker of Las Vegas; her daughter, Janet Foulk of Nevada City, Calif.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Elsie will be dearly missed. No public services are scheduled. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Salvation Army.
