Ernest David King was born in Fresno, California on March 3, 1941 to the parents of Edgar King and Esther Parker King. He was the first born of six children. After Ernest graduated high school he enlisted in the Army Reserve. When Ernest was not away on duty he held a job as a maintenance supervisor at Cal Tran Maintenance for many years. Throughout his years of service in the Army Reserve, Ernest obtained many awards, accolades, and distinguished titles; he was heavily decorated in his career. He retired from the Army Reserve after 31 years of service. Later in life Ernest met his love, Albertha, and they wed on June 1, 1991 in San Jose, California. Their union blended together their family which included 3 children from Ernest (Ernest King, Jr., Reginald King, Tyrone King) and 4 children from Albertha (Ray Fitzgerald Green, Yvelle Lanay Green, Steve Green III, Ruth Green) with whom they all adoringly called “dad.” In 2001, Ernest and Albertha relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada to make that their new place of residence. Ernest found his church home at River of Life Word Ministries with his wife in 2011 where he was a very active member. He was the secretary for the Men’s team, worked in the Security Ministry, and worked alongside his wife Albertha in the “In-Reach Ministry.” You could easily say that Ernest was a familiar face you could be guaranteed to see at any church event or function.
If there were 2 distinguishing characteristics about Ernest the two that would be at the top of the list are “Reliable and Loyal”, if he gave his commitment to something you would know that you could easily depend on the task to be completed. Ernest always had a smile foreshadowing his magnetic personality. It was safe to say that everyone who encountered him just loved to be around him. He was very easy going and slow to anger. Nothing seemed to ever get under his skin because he took everything with a “grain of salt.” To say that Ernest was good hearted would be an understatement to just how amazing he was. Ernest spent countless hours volunteering at the local hospitals after his work career, although he did receive a nudge from Albertha that he needed to get out the house and do something after retirement. Little did anyone know that Ernest would come to love volunteering as much as he did. You can confirm, this just by looking at his awards pinned all over his volunteer vest. A couple more notable facts about Ernest: He was an avid sports fan where the San Francisco 49ers was his favorite football team, he loved watching the Golden State Warriors, and enjoyed bowling.
Ernest will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Esther King. Ernest leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife Albertha King, sons: Ernest King Jr, Reginald King, Tyrone (Yolanda) King, Ray Fitzgerald Green and Steve (Aiko) Green III: daughters: Yvelle Lanay Green and Ruth Green. He is survived by 3 brothers: Commasau (Tracy) Phillips, Elijah Phillips, and Harold Phillips; 2 sister: Augustine (Darnell) Redd and Julianna (Bakari) Hynes.
