Gene Riding Leavitt, of Las Vegas, passed away Sept. 16, 2014. He passed away peacefully at home. Gene was born Oct. 18, 1923, in Mesquite, to Christopher Lister Leavitt and Annie (Barnum) Leavitt. He was the fourteenth of 15 children. He was preceded in death by nine brothers; and five sisters. He was also preceded in death by his first child, Gary Leavitt; and great-granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Cox. He was the grandson of Mormon pioneer, Dudley Leavitt and Thirza (Riding) Leavitt. Gene is survived by his loving and devoted wife, of 72 years, Verl La Rae (Button) Leavitt. He is also survived by his children, Gayle Marlene Gardner (Lee), David Gene Leavitt, Monte Clark Leavitt (Sally) and Pamela Greenig (Robert); 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He served others faithfully for many years as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He worked in the construction and trucking industries in southern Nevada. He retired as a fleet manager of a Concrete Ready Mix company. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, with funeral services following, both at the LDS Chapel, 4340 W. Warm Springs Road (Warm Springs Road and Arville St.). Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road (Lone Mountain Road and Tenaya Ave.).
