Born September 20, 1943, in Newton, Mississippi, Geneva T. Atkins was the third of seven children, raised in Lawrence, Mississippi, by her grandparents Bessie Gilson and Ike Monday. She graduated from Lawrence High School. In the late 1970s, Geneva moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she became an active member of Second Baptist Church. Known for her deep faith, she often quoted Psalms 23 and 27 and found strength in gospel music—especially “I Am on the Battlefield for My Lord.” She was preceded in death by her husband Rance Atkins; children Randy Atkins, Raymond Earl Atkins, Geneva Atkins, and Calvin McClay I; and siblings Voncille Collier, Zola Collier, and Johnny Thames. Geneva is survived by her children: Billy Wayne Atkins, Calvin McClay III, Gennette Atkins, Jackalyn Atkins, and Luta McClay; 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind siblings Demus McKnight, Mary White, and Louella Jackson, along with many extended family and friends. Fondly remembered for her kind heart, resilience, and joyful spirit, Geneva’s legacy of love and faith lives on in all who knew her.
