George Salovich, age 95, a 48-year resident of Las Vegas, passed away at Las Ventanas Skilled Care, following a year-long struggle with the effects of a subdural hematoma. George was born in 1919, San Francisco, and raised in Butte, Mont. He had a head for numbers, beautiful penmanship, and a gift for the written word which lead him to a business school education. World War II erupted, and George was able to hone these skills clerking in the U.S. Armed Forces. He moved to Las Vegas in 1968 from Montana with the love of his life, Ethel. George retired from the State of Nevada as a tax auditor. In retirement, George and Ethel played many hours of Bingo at the Boulder Station, where they developed many friends over the years. George is survived by his four children, Sandy Rydell (Jay) of Spokane, Wash., George Salovich (Marcia) of Boise Idaho, Judy Sheldon (Michael) of Las Vegas, and Jeanne Salovich of Palm Springs, Calif.; five grandchildren; and six great-grand-children, who will miss his wit and charming smile. There will be a celebration of his life 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at Las Ventanas, 10401 W. Charleston Blvd., in the library.
