Henry Otis Durham, born May 25, 1938, to Tim and Clemmie Durham, passed away on August 25, 2025, at the age of 87, in Henderson, Nevada. He was born in Cedar Hills, Texas, a small township outside of Paris, Texas.

Henry’s early years were spent in Lovington, New Mexico, before his family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona when he was 12 years old. It was in Phoenix where Henry would spend the remainder of his life.

After graduating from Percy L. Julian Elementary School in Phoenix, Henry continued his education at Phoenix Trade Technical School, where he majored in wood burning. Several cherished pieces of furniture, including a cedar chest made in 1955, serve as enduring reminders of his craftsmanship. His oldest sister, Joyce, was the fortunate recipient of the cedar chest. The scent of freshly carved wood and the intricate design will always be part of Henry’s legacy, but these pieces are not for sale.

In addition to his artistic talent, Henry demonstrated a strong aptitude for typing, which earned him recognition from his younger brother Donald. After graduation in 1956, Henry volunteered to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. Following in his footsteps, his brother Donald also joined the Navy.

After completing his service, Henry embarked on a career with the U.S. government. He was employed in various roles, including in the Traffic Controllers Division, where he served diligently for 20 years. Following his retirement from government service, Henry enjoyed a fulfilling second career as a school bus driver and later as a bus driver. He finally retired after spending several years as a school bus driver.

Henry was married to Betty Ruth Durham in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1984. She preceded him in death. He is survived by four children Tonya Durham, Teraton Durham, Dehann Durham, and Sylvia Durham. He is also survived by four siblings: Donald Durham, Charles Durham, Hazel Kane, and Jacqueline Durham-Moore. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Henry was a devout Christian who accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior many years ago. He is remembered fondly for his love of family, his service to his country, and his enduring faith.
