Jack V. Abercrombie, 90, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 1. He and wife Mary (Whitley) observed their 70th wedding anniversary on Sept. 30. Jack is survived by wife, Mary, and six children; Jackolyn (Keith) Hopkey, Judy(Rex III) Abercrombie Ewing), John "Bubba" (Paula) Abercrombie, Jayne Hill, Joyce (Corey) Newcome, all of Las Vegas and Joanne Nasby of Yuma, Ariz. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Nannie C. Haygood of Culloden, Ga., Frank Abercrombie of Eureka, Nev., and Dianne Oliver of Las Vegas. Jack was born in Lamar County, Georgia on May 18, 1921. In his early years, he worked in a saw mill in Georgia and later ran his own pulpwoods company and managed a fishing pier in North Carolina. Jack was a resident of Las Vegas since 1961. He retired from Home Lumber Company (Houston Lumber) before working at Wholesale Builders Supply as a certified shop welder until the age of 75. Jack was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a wonderful man, a tremendous father and grandfather and a loving and caring husband. He will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 7, at 11 am. at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
