Jackie Charles "Champ" Smith, 69, passed away Nov. 17, 2016. Jack was born Feb. 4, 1947, to Oscar "Bud" Smith and Doris "Dolly" Krumine, in York, Pa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Clifton Scott Smith; and best friend, Spud. He is survived by his wife, of 42 years, Evan Kae Morrell; daughter, Amanda Elizabeth Terasa (Adam); son, Zachary Smith; and seven grandchildren, McKenzie, Jaiden, Savannah, Olivia, Cole, Sadie and Emma. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War as a staff sergeant. He later worked as chief engineer for Fox 5 in Las Vegas for 42 years, and assisted with building the station from the ground up. Jack was inducted into the Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2012 for his extensive and groundbreaking work in the field of broadcasting. His lifelong hobby was as a Ham radio enthusiast, which he began at age 12. He proudly served in many callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder-day Saints, loved to serve others and the Lord. He loved his beloved wife, Evan, cherished his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed spending quality time with them daily. He was a great friend to so many in life, and was a great example of selfless service. Jack had a huge heart and loved so many. We will keep you in our hearts forever. "We love you Jack. Champ. Dad. Papa. Friend and mentor." Viewing will be 9-10:45 a.m., with services following at 11 a.m., both at the LDS Chapel, 3400 W. Charleston Blvd. Las Vegas. Burial will follow at Bunker's Memory Gardens Cemetery, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road. Flowers may be sent directly there.
