In Loving Memory of James Harvey Sumner
August 19, 1950 – August 19, 2026
James Harvey Sumner, born on August 19, 1950, in Sidney, Montana, was a remarkable man with a heart of gold. He was compassionate, caring, proud, and full of life. To those who knew him, he was a man who knew no strangers, treated others with kindness, and left an impression on the hearts of the people he met.
James spent some of his life in California before making his way to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he lived out the remainder of his days. He took pride in his work and in the things he loved. Whether riding his beloved Harley or another motorcycle, creating something beautiful with his woodworking skills, or standing at the door as a security professional, James found ways to connect with people and share a part of himself with the world. During his time working as a doorman, he met many friends along the way, because making connections with others came naturally to him.
An in redibly talented woodworker, James had a gift for turning his ideas into something unique and meaningful. He loved sharing his creativity and skills with others, leaving pieces of his talent and a little bit of himself in the things he made. He was a proud man who loved what he did, and he carried that pride into the life he built.
But perhaps one of the most important parts of James’s life was being a daddy to his little girl. He was a good daddy, and the bond they shared is something that time cannot erase. His love, his presence, and the memories they made together will forever hold a special place in her heart.
Family was important to James. It caused him great heartache to see the people he loved divided and torn apart. More than anything, he wished his family could get along, put their differences aside, and find a way to come together. It was a wish he carried in his heart, and one that those who loved him may continue to honor in his memory.
Though life and family were not always easy, the love Harvey (Jimmy) gave and the connections he made remain. Those who knew him best, especially his daughter, nieces, and nephews, know that the spirit of this remarkable man is never truly gone. He lives on in the stories shared, the memories treasured, the lessons remembered, and the love that remains.
James Harvey Sumner will be remembered for his heart of gold, his love of motorcycles, his creative hands, his pride in his work, and the way he welcomed people into his world. He was one of a kind, and there will never be another quite like him.
His forever birthday is August 19 2026. Though he may no longer walk beside us, the love he gave will never leave us. He will forever be loved, forever missed, and forever a part of the hearts of those who knew him and loved him.
Ride free, Daddy. Until we meet again.
