Jimmy Joe Melton, born February 25, 1948, in Henderson, Nevada, faithfully served his family, his community, his country, and his God until he passed away early in the evening of April 5, 2025, at the age of 77. Preceded in death by his parents, John Boyd Melton and Martha Olive Blackwell, his sister Jean Stitt, and brother John Ray Melton. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, April Melton, three children from previous marriages, Jason, Toni, and Brad, three stepchildren, Autumn, Matthew, and Heather, his sister Sandra Reade, brother, Timothy Melton, along with many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephew.
Jimmy Joe dedicated himself to his family, living his days actively participating and interacting with his family with a smile and sense of humor as unique as the life he led. He never met a stranger, always offering sound advice, lifting your spirits in a time of loss and a hammer in a time of need. Living most of his life in Henderson, he was a graduate of Basic High School before he enlisted in the United States Army where he toured in Vietnam. Upon discharge he toured Europe before finding his way back home where he joined the Painters Union working in Las Vegas and the Nevada Test Site where his employment transitioned to the Operating Engineers and from which he retired.
Active in his community you may know him as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, mentor, friend, kind stranger, or even as a volunteer for the Special Olympics. Some may know him from his childhood, as Santa, as a clown, or as a friend he met along the way. Regardless of how you met Jimmy Joe, you knew him to be authentic, unapologetic, compassionate and approachable, in short, he made you feel special. Most likely you remember him telling stories and jokes, just being Jimmy Joe. He will truly be missed by everyone's life he touched. God Be With You Until We Meet Again.
