Joanne Hatfield

July 3, 1936 — May 1, 2013

JoAnne Hatfield, of Boulder City, passed away May 1, 2013, with her family surrounding her. She was born July 3, 1936, in Globe, Ariz., to Tommy and Vera Thompson. She graduated from Boulder City High School in 1954, joining the U.S. Army shortly thereafter. She went on to marry her high school sweetheart, Richard "Luther" Hatfield. They were happily married for 56 years and raised two sons. JoAnne also raised and trained dogs and horses, however her true passion was horses, Paints being her favorite and her specialty. Not only did she herself produce several national champions that were featured in horse magazines nationwide, she helped several others to follow in her footsteps. Both she and her husband were involved in the formation and move of the Boulder City Horsemen's Association as well as the Boulder City Foursquare Church, which is now the Christian Center. Soon after retirement, they moved to Caliente for cooler weather and found a new hobby, one that did not involve Luther driving thousands of miles to pick up alfalfa, ATV's. Sadly, in 2003, JoAnne was in an ATV accident that left her a paraplegic and Luther her soul caretaker until 2008, when they moved back to Boulder City to live with family. While JoAnne will be greatly missed, she loved the Lord with all her heart, mind, and soul. We take comfort in the knowledge she is in Heaven with a new body, resting in the arms of Jesus. She was preceded in death by her brother; her parents; her in-laws, Richard and Edna Hatfield; and her grandson, Scotty. She is survived by her husband, Luther; sons, Rick and Terry (Wendy); grandchildren, Cory (Shasta), Melissa, Heidi, TJ and Kelli; and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Cody. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 13, at the Christian Center, 571 Adams Blvd., Boulder City. Anyone wishing to come is more than welcome.
