John A Timko

John A. Timko, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 25, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada with several of his children by his side. He is now reunited with Beatrice (Marmolejo) Timko, his wife of 52 years at the time of her death in August 2003.

John was born 28 May 1929 in St Clair, Pennsylvania to George and Justine (Yevchak) Timko. He was very attached to his two older siblings, Andrew and Helen. After his father died in a coal mine accident, his mother married Charles Staso and had John's younger brothers, Charles and Eddie Staso.

John enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1946 and trained as an aircraft mechanic. He worked on B-17, B-29, B-47 and B-52 bombers at numerous bases in the States, England and the Pacific. Later he became a Flight Engineer on the C-141, Starlifter cargo aircraft and, in 1970, flew on the C-7 Caribou as a Flight Engineer during a one year tour in Viet Nam. John retired as a Master Sergeant in 1973 and the family moved to Las Vegas.

John is preceded in death by wife, Beatrice; son, Richard; siblings, Andy and Helen. He is survived by five remaining children: Dave, Geri, Paul, Johnny, and Christine; grandchildren: Molly, Michael and Christy; several great grandchildren and brothers; Charles and Eddie.

John was a quiet, caring and kind person. He doted on his family and was happiest when he was in their company. He enjoyed music and playing original tunes on his harmonica and piano. He played the accordian as a teenager. He always enjoyed family phone calls and playing bingo at his favorite casinos. John enjoyed nature and was happy in his backyard growing figs, tomatoes and herbs, and caring for several feral cats, making friends with a special one: 'Gray'.

A teacher once told John he had a "million dollar smile" and his ready smile is what the family hopes all will remember most about him.

The family asks no flowers be sent, only happy thoughts and memories.
