Joyce Morrison Andreasen January 27,1938, to April 24, 2025
Joyce Morrison Andreasen passed away on April 24, 2025 at her home. She was born on January 27, 1938 to Elloid and Elsie Morrison in Richfield, Utah. She was born right smack in the middle of 15 children. She lived all her life until 1954 in Richfield, Utah. It was then that she met a tall, handsome guy from a nearby town, who was home on leave from the Air Force, "cruzin' Richfield" with friends. His name was James Carlyle Andreasen and when he saw Joyce he knew he had found his girl. Elloid gave his blessing quickly to the persistent suitor and they were married 3 months later on July 10, 1954. They were sealed in the Manti, Utah temple in 2003.
Joyce and Jim had the opportunity to live and travel many places around the world during Jim’s 21 year military career and also after their retirement. During Jim’s military career, they lived in France, Japan, and many stateside Air Force bases. Joyce learned how to cook, craft, and even speak other languages to some extent into her older years. Joyce worked many jobs in the different places that they were stationed in the military. While living in Layton, Utah Joyce worked for many years at the IRS service center in Ogden, Utah. She enjoyed her work and traveled sometimes for several weeks due to her job. She always made friends and traveled to see the sites wherever she was.
Nearly every morning of their retirement, Joyce & Jim went out to breakfast, sometimes not returning home until late at night because they decided to “go for a drive” and ended up in another state exploring. Joyce was talented at many things. She crocheted many beautiful afghans, doilies, and other items which she gave to family and friends. She was also a talented seamstress and could make anything. Joyce also enjoyed crafts and painting. She shared her talents and was always willing to help or teach others. She had a love for reading and always had a book nearby. Her favorite game was Rumikub and her family and friends spent many hours playing it with her and eating her favorite food; chocolate! Chocolate was like a separate food group for her. We often wondered how she got to be 87 without suffering from diabetes! She also enjoyed camping and outdoor activities with her family. Joyce was well known in the family for her yummy goulash which she made frequently after a long day of four-wheeling. Joyce loved her husband and family. After Jim passed away, she missed her best friend greatly. She loved her children and grandchildren and spent many hours cooking for them and making them special things that will always remind us of her. Joyce had an amazing way of loving her grandchildren that made each one of them feel extra special and like they were her favorite! The truth is, they were all her favorite!! She had a strong testimony of the gospel and taught us by example. She spent many hours in her later years doing temple work and genealogy.
Joyce is survived by her sons Kurt (Carol), David (Cheryl), daughter Tracy (Bryan), 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 brothers; Gayle, Lynn (Ruby), and Don (Sherry), Jim’s sister, Gayle Taylor, and many extended family and friends whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and 11 brothers and sisters.
Her funeral will be held at the Mountain Shadows LDS Ward, 100 E Hammer Lane, North Las Vegas, NV 89031 on Tuesday, May 13th at 1:30 p.m. with a viewing from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. The burial will take place on Wednesday, May 14 th at 9:20 am at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran’s Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
