Kenneth Merlin Oswald

August 6, 1924 — May 12, 2022

Kenneth Merlin Oswald was born on August 6,1924 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Rosie Nef and Louis Friedrich Oswald III. He grew up and was raised in Shelly, Idaho.  He loved all sports and he soon learned that boxing was not his sport after being hit a few times in the head. During High School Ken join the marching band and became Shelly High School’s best drum major.

While attending Ricks College he decided to put his education on hold to serve a 2-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was called to serve in the British, England Mission.  After his mission he served in the Korean War for 15 months with the 300th Armored Artillery Battalion as Reserve Status.

After the war he continued his education. While in college Ken was offered a job with National Reactor Testing Station near Arco, Idaho. During this time, he met his sweetheart Genevieve Balls. They were soon married on June 25, 1952.  They made their home in Shelly, Idaho and during their time in Shelly, they were blessed with five children.

In 1960 Ken accepted a job with Lawrence Livermore Laboratories in Las Vegas, Nevada, better known as the Test Site north of Las Vegas.  He and Genevieve made their new home in Las Vegas; it was there where their family grew from seven to nine. Ken’s love was his family and serving in the Church. In his free time, he loved taking his family to the lake and going fishing. He loved camping, hiking, playing tennis, scouting, boating, and water skiing and creating memories with his family out on the lake.

Ken had a great love for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Temples; he loved serving in the Temple. On November 12, 1992, Ken was called to be a Temple Ordinance Worker in the Las Vegas, Nevada Temple.  He later was ordained to be a Sealer in the Temple by Apostle Russell M Nelson.

On August 28, 1999, his sweet wife Genevieve passed away at age 74.  Later Ken met Joni George and soon was married on June 30, 2001, in the Las Vegas, Nevada Temple.  They made their home in Las Vegas until Joni passed away on February 27, 2019.

Kenneth had great dedication for life, high morals, and values. He loved to serve the Lord and others, this brought Ken great happiness.  His family was everything to him. He served his family and the Lord to the end where he passed away in his home on May 12, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Rosie, brothers Deloy, Ron, Allen Oswald.  His 2 wives Genevieve and Joni and son Dean Oswald. He is survived by Brent (Becky), Kaye (Paul), Gary (Holly), Ilene (Scott), Dale (Diane), and Rosemary (Jon).

A viewing will be held Monday May 23 at 9:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building, 3200 Mustang St, Las Vegas, NV. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 am.

Interment will be on Tuesday May 24 at 10:00 am at Bunker Memory Gardens Cemetery 7251 W Lone Mountain Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89129.
