Koei-Liang (Leon) Liauw, a long-time resident of Las Vegas, NV and Wyckoff, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home on November 14, 2022. He was 87.
Leon was born in Palembang, Indonesia on May 4, 1935. He lived through the occupation of Indonesia during World War II and went on to receive an undergraduate degree from Nanyang University, Singapore and a PhD in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.
He enjoyed staying on top of current events, loved laughing and sharing stories over a good meal - especially Chinese and Indonesian food, playing chess, watching movies, and exercising.
Leon is preceded in death by his wife Hui-Lian (Lynn) Liauw, 5 siblings, and his parents.
He is survived by a sister, Liauw Siok Yong, in Indonesia; daughter and son-in-law, Julita and Rob Eleveld, and 3 grandchildren, Bobby, John, and Kate in Seattle; nephew Robby Muliawan and family in Pennsylvania; nephew Teddy Muliawan and family in New Jersey and New York; best friend in Las Vegas; and a large extended family in Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Netherlands.
