Lamar Dean Leavitt, age 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully returned to his heavenly home on August 22, 2026 in North Las Vegas, NV surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on September 30, 1946 in Las Vegas, NV to Lamar & Betty Leavitt, Dean lived a life deeply rooted in faith, hard work, and dedication to his family.

He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served the Lord with all his heart, holding various callings including Full-Time & Service Missionary, Young Men’s President, Elders Quorum President, Ward Mission Leader, and Executive Secretary to the Bishop. His testimony of the restored gospel and the plan of salvation was his guiding light, and he exemplified Christlike love to everyone he met.

He had a deep sense of pride in community and civil service. He was proud to be a citizen of the City of North Las Vegas and is a 2nd generation native of Southern Nevada. He served on the North Las Vegas Planning Commission for about 12 years with 7 of those years as Chair. He was a founding member of the North Las Vegas Housing Services (NHS) in 1992 which later became Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada (NHSSN). He was a 25 year employee of the Clark County School District where he retired in January of 2017.

Dean’s enduring legacy of love is his posterity. He is survived by his wife & eternal companion of 57 years, Gladys Whitehead; his children, Drew (Chris), Marc (Diane), Benji (Jennifer), & Becky Reece (Greg); 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren with 3 on the way. Each one of them carries a piece of his kind spirit, his wisdom, his quick wit, and his unwavering faith.

There is great comfort in knowing that Dean is experiencing a joyful reunion on the other side of the veil. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Wade; and his siblings Joy Leavitt, Trudi Johnson, Randy Leavitt, and Valerie Sutton & her 3 daughters. We find peace in the eternal promise that families can be together forever.

A viewing will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 5975 N. Clayton St., North Las Vegas, NV 89031. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 12:30 PM at the same location. Interment will take place at Bunker's Memory Gardens Cemetery, situated at 7251 W. Lone Mountain Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89129.
