Leona C. Hinton

Leona Cooper Hinton 87, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away Jan. 27, 2012, in Boulder City, surrounded by her loving family members. She was born April 30, 1924, in Washington, Utah, to Erasmus William and Florence Averett Cooper. She married Max Hinton, Dec. 21, 1941 in Las Vegas, and was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple Dec. 7, 1963. Her early years were spent in Washington, Utah, where she attended elementary school then attended high school in St. George, Utah. She worked at the Army Defense plant in Henderson assembling bombs during World War II while her husband, Max, was in active Army combat duty. In 1945, they moved to Henderson and resided there for the past 66 years. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, sacrificing her needs for others. Leona loved children and babysat many children of family and friends throughout her lifetime. She also enjoyed traveling with her daughter to far off parts of the world. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in Primary and Relief Society and was a faithful dedicated visiting teacher. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Maxine Miller; three grandchildren, Dawn (Philip) Sanders, Toni (Lynn) Visser, and David (Elizabeth) Warrilow; 11 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Cleve Cooper; and sister, Wanda Gibson. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a great-grandchild, Kimberly Warrilow; three brothers, Evan Cooper, Kay Cooper, and Dennie Cooper; and two sisters, Nola Adams and Winnie Prince. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, with services at 11 a.m., both at the Water Street LDS Chapel, 400 Water St., Henderson. Interment will be at 10:40 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd. in Boulder City.
