Lorna N Swainston

Lorna Nelson Swainston, age 94 of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away peacefully in her home with her children nearby on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.  She was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on May 31st, 1929 to Isabella Bonar Hall Erskine Nelson (mother) and George Nelson (father) and James Calder Nelson (brother).  In March of 1951, she immigrated to the United States on the Queen Mary.  Once she arrived in the US, she met and married the love of her life, Theron Lane Swainston, Jr. in the Salt Lake City, UT temple in April 1953.

Lorna and Theron moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1956 to work in the education system.  They raised their seven children Lori, Lane, Lora, Darin, Eric, Ian and Heather in Las Vegas and lived there until moving to Saudi Arabia in 1986.  They returned to Las Vegas in 1994, and served in the temple presidency of the Las Vegas Temple.  In 2004, they served a mission in Palmyra, NY.

Lorna was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She served her community in many ways and whole-heartedly loved her community and family.

She is survived by her seven children, twenty-five grandchildren and fifty-two great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by many and her legacy of service, love and dedication to her savior, Jesus Christ will live on.
