Margene Olivia Hopla Jones passed peacefully from this life Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the age of 82. She was born Feb. 25, 1930, in Mapleton, Utah, to parents John Edward Hopla and Mabel Ida Strong. Margene had one brother, Harold John Hopla, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Springville High School and throughout her life continued to keep up with Springville events through subscription to the Springville Herald. She married her sweetheart, Merlin J. Jones, for time and eternity June 8, 1950, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. After completing schooling in various parts of the country, the couple settled in Las Vegas. Merlin and Margene were the proud parents of three children. Margene proudly proclaimed her profession as a "homemaker" (not a housewife!) Margene was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the children's organization for many years. She also maintained close ties to Utah and her friends there - some of which formed the "T.U.Club" (Transplanted Utahans) in Las Vegas. Margene is survived by her children, Karen Lee Jones and Marty Morris of Las Vegas, Janeane Jones and John Colton Sargent of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Laurence Merlin Jones of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren - all of whom she adored saying that being a grandma and grandma-ma was the best job in the world! The family extends heartfelt gratitude to caregivers, Lori and Wilma, of Olive Grove Residential Care, and to Nathan Adelson Hospice (particularly nurse Heidi) for their gentle and loving care of our mother. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. N., Las Vegas. No funeral services will be held. Interment will be at the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Springville, Utah Saturday, March 31. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the LDS Humanitarian Fund.
