MARVIN RAY Marvin Andrew Ray, 86, passed away peacefully Monday March 28, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was born in Las Vegas April 1, 1924, to Robert and Ester Ray. He attended and graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps shortly thereafter. He was wounded in Tarawa Nov. 22, 1943, on his first day of actual combat. He returned home after six months of hospitalization and recuperation, and received the Purple Heart. In 1948, he married Lucile M. Hermenjat, and they had three children. He supported his family by driving truck for the Cardinal family, who were the local Mobil Gas distributors, then went on to work as a teamster/warehouseman for Von Tobel Lumber Co. for many years. He finished his working years as a self-employed builder. After retiring, he was able to devout all his time and efforts to his lifelong passion for antique cars. He and Lucile loved to roam the desert in search of old car parts, and also visited many antique shops, searching for treasures to add to their collections. He was a founding member of the Las Vegas Model-T Club, and enjoyed many activities with them. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ester Ray; brothers, Francis and Robert Ray; and his wife, of over 61 years, Lucile. He is survived by his sons, Michael (Debbie), Scott (Patti); daughter, Michelle (Michael); grandkids, Stephen, Jonathan, Zachary, Karlie, William, Shane and Amber; and great-grandkids, Gavin, Colton, Matthew and Mallory. Viewing will be 9-10 a.m. Friday, April 1, with services following, both at First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 301 S. Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89101.
