Mary Clark Alvey

August 17, 1920 — December 27, 2014

Mary Clark Alvey, 94, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully Dec. 27, 2014, at home. Mary was born Aug. 17, 1920, to James Leland Clark and Mary Matilda Humphries Clark, in Panquitch, Utah. She was the youngest of six children. After she graduated from high school, Mary went to the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. She worked in the Las Vegas Post Office. She could write a money order a minute. She married her spouse, Quince Alvey of Escalante, Utah, in April 1944, and had four children. She has 12 grandchildren and 13-and-a-half great-grandchildren. Mary was a very talented woman. She was an excellent cook, quilter and a fabulous candy maker. She demonstrated candy all over southern Nevada and Utah. Her wonderful recipes have even made it to Australia. She served diligently in the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints all of her life in many positions. Her loved doing genealogy and working in the Las Vegas Temple. Her greatest love was her family and she was very devoted to them. Mary was a very generous woman and was deeply loved by her family, friends and the community. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her six brothers and sisters; and her husband, of 56 years. She is survived by her children, Linda Gai Hartwell of Las Vegas, Jane (Richard) Leany of Las Vegas, Marie Leavitt of Las Vegas and Raymond (Melanie) Alvey of North Las Vegas; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Viewing will be 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, with funeral services following, both at the Hacienda Heights LDS chapel, 6325 W. Hacienda Ave. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road.
