Melvin "Mel" Miner Jr., 73, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 23, 2015. Mel was born on Oct. 18, 1942, in Long Beach, Calif., the son of Melvin Miner Sr. and Georgene Crandall. He graduated in 1961, from Wilson High School in Long Beach, and began forging a career in the electrical industry before moving to Las Vegas 33 years ago. Mel was an artist, a prolific writer and poet, a man of letters and prose, a photographer, a painter and drawing master, an admirer of art of all kinds, from canvas to music to cinema, a voracious reader, an archivist of history, pop culture and memorabilia, a racing fan, and a sports fan. He was a loving husband and father, a provider, a teacher, a scholar and philosopher, a coach, a cheerleader and booster, a comforter, a hopeless romantic, and a towering presence throughout our entire lives. We will always love and miss him. Mel is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Christian and James; two grandchildren; four brothers; and one sister.
