Murlin Joyce Shand Hampton was born to Leanore E. Shand on July 31, 1934, in Jamaica West Indies. She became a U.S. citizen at age 8 1/2. She developed a passion for caring for people at a young age. Murlin was a licensed practical nurse from 1955 to 2006. She started her career in nursing at Wycoff Heights Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. After moving to Las Vegas, NV in 1982, she spent 26 years of her career at UMC working with patients who experienced stroked, brain and spine injuries. She retired from Nursing at age 72. After retirement, she spent 17 years volunteering in Las Vegas at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health and Valley Hospital. She was nominated as nurse of the year in 1991. She enjoyed making her patients smile by talking about something that relates to their generation. Murlin had a passion for animals. She was instrumental in organizing the Pet Therapy Program in Las Vegas. So needless to say, she loved and cared for animals, people, and families. The doctors who worked with Murlin always said, "If I needed nursing care- I would want it to be Murlin." Daughter, Lisa remembers her mother's favorite song by Stevie Wonder, "I just called to say I love you." Murlin had one son, Cyril Hampton, who preceded her in death, left behind four daughters, Lisa Harper (Charles), De'Vonne Pascascio (Ernest), Hope Wallace, and Bonnie Hampton, 12 Grandchildren, Kariq and Knaquan Hampton; Krystal Lewis, Tiffany and Ashley Harper; Crystal and Jocelyn Wallace; Mark Geen and Janee' Hampton; Ernest, James and Kenneth Pascascio, and 12 great grand children and a host of family and close friends.
Congregation Song: When We All Get to Heaven
Sing the wondrous love of Jesus,
Sing His mercy and His grace;
In the mansions bright and blessed
He'll prepare for us a place.
When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We'll sing and shout the victory!
While we walk the pilgrim pathway,
Clouds will overspread the sky;
But when trav'ling days are over,
Not a shadow, not a sigh.
Let us then be true and faithful,
Trusting, serving every day;
Just one glimpse of Him in glory
Will the toils of life repay.
When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We'll sing and shout the victory!
Onward to the prize before us!
Soon His beauty we'll behold;
Soon the pearly gates will open;
We shall tread the streets of gold.
When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We'll sing and shout the victory!
When we all see Jesus,
We'll sing and shout the victory!
