Nona Elizabeth Hamblin

July 8, 1940 — July 8, 2021

Nona Hamblin of Pahrump, NV passed away July 8, 2021 (nee Stierheim). Born July 8, 1940 in Lackawanna, NY, the nuns of Our Lady of Victory Orphanage named her Nona for "No Name:. Her adopted family lived outside of Pittsburgh, PA where she attended parochial schools, learned to ride her neighbor's horses, and later spent time on a Montana ranch becoming an award-winning dressage performer. She graduated with education degrees from California State College in Pennsylvania and from Northern Arizona University. She taught 30+ years for Clark County grade schools. In Las Vegas, she met and married Jerry Hamblin; together they ran an Arabian horse business.

Always positive and high energy, Nona was a "special friend", not only to humans, but to animals as well, big and small. When Jerry died, she moved to a 5-acre ranch in Pahrump where she cared for her rescue horse, Rascal, and a family of rescue dogs and cats. She was dedicated to wildlife preservation, environmental, civil, and Veteran causes. She was a strong four-time cancer survivor, visited Mexico yearly, and kept friendships worldwide. Later she was a member of Pahrump Library's Shakespeare Round Table where she enjoyed the bard's plays and armchair acting. She was dubbed, "Royal Mistress of Chamber" for her generosity support, and friendship to all. Nona gave her open heart and laughter to all and was a beacon of hope, honestly, and trust. To those who shared that "cup of Nona coffee"---she will always be missed.

For those who wish to say goodbye and to share memories, an informal funeral service will be held for Nona on Sunday August 29, 2021 from 2:00-3:00 at Bunkers Mortuary located at 925 N Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89101. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice in Nona's name.
