Opal Oehler passed away peacefully Aug. 29, 2014 in Las Vegas. She was 89 years old. Opal was born Nov. 27, 1924 in Hagerman, N.M. She married career Naval officer James C. Oehler Sept. 15, 1958, after which they enjoyed a fulfilling and adventurous life together, living for extended stays in Australia and Spain, and moving a total of seventeen times. They appreciated Navy life and their extensive travels both overseas and across the United States, and loved meeting people everywhere they traveled. Opal excelled at cooking and entertaining, and was an accomplished seamstress and handcrafter. When Jim retired from the Navy they moved to Las Vegas, the site of their wedding, and remained there raising pets and enjoying the city. Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Oehler; her sister, Jean Spinack; brothers, Pete Miller and Emmett Miller. She is survived by her sister, Tiny Todd of Downey, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. No services are scheduled.
