Orville E Norman

Orville E Norman, 92, passed away July 22, 2010. Orville was born October 18, 1917 in Trenton, MO to parents Bert and Ella Norman. He was a High School graduate and a Des Moines, IA Barber School graduate. He served the United States as he enlisted in the army at the beginning of World War II. He served in the Iowa 185th “Red Bull” Field Artillery Battalion. Following basic training in Louisiana and New Jersey he went to England fought Rommel in Northern Africa, and several campaigns in Italy. Following the conclusion of WWII in 1945 he married Helen Baker of Boone, IA where he worked as a barber. In 1948 the couple traveled to Oregon, California and Nevada. They decided to settle in the small town of Las Vegas. Orville worked a short time in the casino industry before being hired by the US Postal Service. He loved his job and his customers and delivered the mail for 25 years in the Huntridge neighborhood. Orville retired from the post office in 1977. Orville was a sports enthusiast. He attended live sports such as UNLV basketball, High School sports, professional baseball, and his sons and grandchildren’s sports activities. He was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Ella Norman, sister Revia and brothers Clarence and Luther.  He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Helen, sons Mark (Judy), David (Lori), grandsons Matthew (Alicia), Michael, Brian, Steven granddaughter Kristin (Mark), and Great Grandson Mason. Orville was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Fellowship Baptist Church and the Griffith United Methodist Church. He was a devoted family man and Christian who loved the Lord!
