Obituary for Otha Lee Burrell

The precious spirit of Otha Lee Burrell ascended into the heavens on April 30, 2022. Otha, lovingly called Johnny by friends and family, was born on July 31, 1941, the first of eight children to the late Delmar Edward Sr. and Lillie Aquilla Burrell in Seagoville, Texas.

Johnny was a gifted guitar player, who played with the church choir as part of his service as deacon in his church. He enjoyed sports of all kinds especially baseball and football. His favorite pastime was playing dominoes with his friends. Johnny attended George Washington Carver High School in Seagoville, Texas and Dealer School in Las Vegas, NV. He retired from the Las Vegas casino and hotel industry.

Otha, “Johnny”, fought a good fight and is survived by his daughter and grand-daughter, De Etta Burrell, Renton, WA and Jacquelyn Nina Ryan, Pasadena, MD; his son, Dennis D. Burrell, Las Vegas, Nevada; his son-in-law, Robert Walker, Las Vegas, NV; his sister, Shirley Livingston and nephews, Kingston and Jason Livingston, Seagoville, TX;  his nieces Paulette Canada, Renton, Washington; Brenda Canada, New York; Anita Canada-Egwim, Lawrenceville, Georgia; and a host of dear-to-the-heart nieces, nephews, cousins, and great aunts.

Otha, “Johnny,” has now joined his daughter Cynthia J. Walker; her mother, Catherine Jean Canada; his parents, Lillie Aquilla and Delmar Edward Sr. Burrell; his brothers, Clarence and Delmar Jr.; his sisters, Gracie Rolland, Gloria Garrison, Linda Wells, Silvia Davis; his maternal grandparents, Ruth Ella and Hosea Braggs; his paternal grandparents, Gracie and Eddie Burrell each who preceded him into the heavens.

Interment Service:         Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 12 pm
