Owen Shelby Cox

October 7, 1943 – August 4, 2025

Owen Shelby Cox, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend, passed

away peacefully at his home in Henderson, Nevada, on August 4, 2025, at the age of 81.

As he was known by family and friends, Shelby was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 7, 1943, to

Owen Earl and Grace Lund Cox; he was a second-generation Clark County native, his father being

born in Bunkerville, Nevada, in 1909. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Jerrold L.

Cox, Carla J. Johnson, and Michael E. Cox.

Shelby leaves behind his loving wife, Chaoom T. Cox, and nine children: Jeannette Palmer (Paul),

Greggory Lund Cox, Todd Lyman Cox (Victoria Cox), Nathan Shelby Cox (Melissa Cox), Melinda

Suzanne Schneider, Becky Michelle Hess, Emily Elizabeth Cox-Acosta, Chulee Keck (Denver Keck),

and Poramut Cox.

He was the proud grandfather of Nicholas Palmer, Annalisa Palmer, Cody Cox, Cayson Cox, Charlotte

Cox, Sammy Cox, Minny Cox, Macayla Anderson, Jordan Ray, Sydnee Schneider, Alex Schneider,

Dinicci Acosta, Mia Acosta, Aneesa Acosta, and Theodore Keck. His legacy continues through his

great-grandchildren: Anand Palmer (Nicholas Palmer), Ivy Anderson, and Wesley Anderson (Macayla

Anderson). He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Frances Cox.

Shelby lived a life defined by service, kindness, faith, and dedication to family and community. He was

a lifelong educator, small business accountant, tax return preparer, and auditor; not only accomplished

in his professional life, but also deeply dedicated to his faith and community. As a faithful member of

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many callings, including Counselor in

multiple Bishoprics, Elders Quorum President, Teacher, Ward Auditor, and Temple Worker. He was

known by all as a friend and a Good Samaritan, always willing to kindly lend meaningful assistance.

Shelby carried a happy disposition despite the many health challenges, physical pain, and handicaps

he faced. He set an example to his friends and family of cheerful perseverance in the face of adversity,

anchored by his peaceful joy from his faith in Jesus Christ. Shelby drew strength from encouraging and

helping his family and friends, brightening their days with his happy smile and consistent service. He

humbly accepted the difficulties of reality while never ceasing to improve the circumstances around

him.

Shelby loved classic cars and often recalled his happy memories of riding motorcycles through the

desert with his brother, sons, nephews, and friends. Shelby had a gift for making people feel

recognized, heard, and loved. Whether he was harassing his mechanic friends tinkering under the hood

of a vintage vehicle, bantering over lunch with friends, or offering quiet advice during difficult times, his

presence brought comfort and strength.

He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, his favorite sayings—“Get ‘er done!” “Bye now.” “Thank

you kindly.” “Thank you, come again!”—and most of all, for his boundless love and unwavering

dedication to those around him.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Henderson Green

Valley Stake Center, 410 N Valle Verde Dr, Henderson, NV 89014.
