Phillip Merle Campbell Sr. was born February 25th, 1951 in Gary, IN to the late Edgar Campbell and Gloria Vessel. Also from that union four children were born. The late Butch, Keith, Phillip and Steven. After enduring a short illness Phillip departed this life December 19th, 2015 in Las Vegas, NV Phillip attended Beckman Middle School and was a graduate of Westside High School in Gary, IN. At an early age Phillip had a love and talent for baseball and golf where he won trophies. Phillip’s strong desire and passion for baseball lead him to be drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In 1970, Phillip worked at U.S. Steel in Gary, IN for eight years. Then relocated to Logansport, IN where he worked at Logansport State Hospital for several years as a Psych Attendant/Alcoholic Counselor. While in Logansport he met and fell in love with Bonnie Jones. In 1981, they united in holy matrimony for thirty-four years. Phillip was the proud father of DeWayne, Sherria, Eric, Miracle and Phillip Jr.In 1983, Phillip moved his family to Fort Wayne, IN where over the years he held jobs at the Fort Wayne State Developmental Ctr., ITT Aerospace Communications Division, and Slater Steels.In 2005, Phillip and his family then moved to Las Vegas, NV where he worked security at the Main Street Station Casino and later retired. Phillip enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports and playing Bid Whist.Phillip leaves to cherish in his memory wife (Bonnie), children (DeWayne, Sherria, Eric, Miracle and Phillip Jr.) five grandchildren, aunt Adele Campbell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brother-in-laws and other relatives and friends who will greatly miss him.Words cannot express our deep appreciation for the many comforting acts of kindness shown during the passing of our loved one.
