Queen Cottrell

QUEEN COTTRELL Queen Esther Cottrell, of Las Vegas, passed away after a brief illness May 2, 2010. She was born in Tulsa, Okla., April 20, 1930. She relocated to Flagstaff, Ariz., in 1952, and there she met her future husband, Lewis Frank Cottrell Jr. In 1956, they were married in Las Vegas, and to this union was born one son, Lewis Craig. In 1959, Queen and her husband, Frank, united with and were baptized in the Bethel Baptist Church. There, she served numerous capacities, such as church secretary, Sunday school, vacation Bible school, usher board, deaconess, mothers board, and one of her greatest joys, the founding of the homeless feeding program at Bethel Baptist Church in which she was active for over 10 years. Queen retired from Clark County Social Services, where she was a home health care aide and went beyond her daily duties to be a counselor, mentor and bereavement assistant to the infirmed, disadvantaged and elderly. She was past worthy matron for Silver Star Chapter #10, as well as grand worthy matron for Desert Rose Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation, F. & A.M., a member of the Daughters of Isis Shriners Oprah Court #201, P.H.A., as well as a member of numerous church, fraternal and social organizations. She leaves to mourn her son, Lewis Craig and his wife, Renee; two granddaughters, N'Dea Druclair and Lexus Shay; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. There will be a celebration of life memorial at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at Bunkers Memorial Chapel, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. N.
